Cursor Subscription Overview & Billing Traps

Overview of Cursor legacy and current subscription tiers, quota-based billing, and refund constraints.

Cursor (Anysphere) sells individual plans and Teams seats. Pricing changed in 2026: new customers subscribe to The X Subscription (Plus / Premium / Super / Ultra). Existing subscribers may still be on legacy Cursor plans (Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams Standard/Premium) with different usage pools. Always confirm your tier on cursor.com/dashboard and the line items on Stripe receipts.

Quick Guides

Individual plans (2026)

Prices below are USD per month before tax, as listed on cursor.com/pricing (annual billing also available).

Tier (The X Subscription)Monthly (USD)Notes
Free$0Limited usage
Plus$8Entry tier; Cursor/Grok models at fixed settings
Premium$30Adds Cloud Agents, third-party models (usage-based), Bugbot, etc.
Super$100Higher included usage pool
Ultra$200Highest individual tier; earliest access to new products

Legacy individual plans (grandfathered)

If you subscribed before The X Subscription rollout, you may still see these on receipts and in the billing portal (legacy docs):

Legacy planMonthly (USD)Rough equivalent on The X Subscription
HobbyFreeFree
Pro$20Premium ($30) — not identical
Pro+ (often Cursor Pro Plus on invoices)$60Super ($100) — not identical
Ultra$200Ultra ($200)

Legacy plans use monthly usage pools and on-demand overage; new plans use a weekly shared pool across Cursor and Grok. Do not assume a $20 charge means “new Plus ($8)” or that $200 always means legacy Ultra without reading the plan name on the receipt.

Teams

Teams seats are billed per user at $30 / $100 / $200 per seat/month on The X Subscription (matching Premium / Super / Ultra seat types). Legacy Teams Standard ($40/seat) and Teams Premium ($120/seat) may still appear for older orgs.

3 Critical Billing Traps to Watch Out For

1. Quota-Based Upgrade Proration

Cursor does not credit upgrades purely on remaining days. If you attempt to upgrade mid-cycle but have already consumed all of your included Fast Requests (e.g., 500/500 used), you receive $0 credit toward the higher plan and must pay full price immediately.

2. The Strict Zero-Usage Refund Constraint

Cursor's automated and manual refund systems require zero usage (0 fast requests consumed) during the newly billed cycle. If you trigger even one fast prompt after renewal, refund requests are usually rejected.

3. Chargeback Risk & Account Bans

Filing a credit card chargeback before contacting official support automatically marks your customer profile as fraudulent in Stripe, leading to an immediate lock on your account and associated GitHub logins under Cursor Terms of Service.
